FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT RELATIONSHIP COACHING

Can coaching really save a relationship, or do we need therapy?
Coaching is different from therapy. In coaching, instead of in-depth analysis of the past, the focus is on practical tools you can use immediately to improve communication, rebuild trust, and make decisions about the future of your relationship. For many couples, this feels faster and more action-oriented than traditional therapy. That said, coaching is not a substitute for therapy and clients often have complex challenges, including childhood trauma, difficulties related to alcohol, addictions, or mental health matters impacting daily life that can make working with a therapist instead of, or in conjunction with coaching imperative.

What if my partner doesn’t want to come?
That’s common—and it doesn’t mean you’re stuck. Even if only one person attends, you can still learn strategies to shift patterns, communicate more effectively, and create changes that impact the whole relationship and can help you identify patterns and grow in ways that can best support your wellbeing in all relationships. Sometimes one partner starting the process encourages the other to join later.

How long does it take to see changes?
Many couples feel a sense of clarity and relief at the very first session. But building a plan and new patterns and habits takes an average of a little over two months- so you can expect generally to do between six and twelve sessions.

Do you work with LGBTQ+ couples, couples who have unique backgrounds, or clients who are in non-traditional relationships?
Absolutely. I work with couples in every stage and structure of relationship, including dating partners, long-term cohabiting couples, blended families, and non-monogamous relationships. Our priority has ALWAYS been inclusivity. Dawn has a background specializing in working with LGBTQ+ and with couples from two or more different backgrounds.

Can you work with clients anywhere?

Absolutely. This is coaching, not counseling or therapy, so I am able to work with clients anywhere in the world. If you’re searching for the best couples counseling alternative in New York, or the best marriage therapy in D.C., you’ve come to the right place. Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Pasadena, New York, Chicago, D.C., and virtually worldwide, we meet by video chat so we can see each other and connect, but be flexible in our scheduling.

Do you accept insurance?

No, I am a coach, not a therapist, so am not eligible to accept insurance. However, sessions are intentionally designed to generally be significantly shorter than traditional therapy, so often more cost-effective in the long run. Sessions are $250 for one session, or $1200 for the discounted six-session plan. We often recommend couples start with one, and provided you decide to continue, you are apply the full amount to the plan rate, so receiving the discounted rate for all six. After six sessions, we’ll explore together how to continue, often deciding to do another six at the discounted rate, and to spread these session out more, sometimes just once a month, to serve as a touchstone to anchor in the changes and growth you are building.
